Leeds United transfers 2026 has been the busiest search term around Elland Road all summer, and with the window now in its closing days it is worth laying the whole thing out in one place. Daniel Farke’s squad looks materially different to the one that finished 14th and stayed up last season: a new goalkeeper, fresh options at centre-back, a reshaped attacking group, and a long list of familiar names who have gone. Here is every confirmed signing and departure of the summer.
Leeds United transfers 2026: the incomings
Five players have arrived, and the headline number belongs to the goalkeeper.
- James Trafford — from Manchester City, for a reported £45m. The most expensive piece of business of the window and, by some distance, the most significant. Trafford was signed to be the long-term No 1 and went straight into the side.
- Tarik Muharemović — from Sassuolo, for a reported £34m. A young centre-half brought in to raise the ceiling of the back four rather than simply to fill a gap.
- Nico Elvedi — from Borussia Mönchengladbach, for a reported £8.5m. An experienced Swiss international and a low-risk addition to the defensive rotation.
- Harry Wilson — from Fulham, on a free transfer. Comfortably the best-value deal of the summer: a Premier League-proven attacking midfielder for nothing but wages.
- Ditmir Hodja — from Rabotnicki, for an undisclosed fee, completed on 21 August. One for the medium term rather than the matchday squad, with his shirt number still to be confirmed.
That is roughly £87.5m of reported outlay on three players, plus two deals done without a fee. It is not a scattergun window. Leeds have spent heavily at the two positions — goalkeeper and centre-back — where a mistake costs a team its Premier League status, then shopped for value further forward.
The departures: a genuine clear-out
The exits column is far longer, and several of the names leaving had been at the club through promotion and survival.
- Pascal Struijk joined Brighton for a reported £15m — the biggest sale of the summer, and the departure that made the Muharemović and Elvedi signings necessary.
- Illan Meslier left on a free when his contract expired in June and joined Arsenal in early July on a two-year deal with a 12-month option, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post. He was subsequently linked with a move to Marseille in the final week of the window — a report rather than a completed deal.
- Joe Gelhardt joined Hull City for a reported £6.5m, ending a long and occasionally frustrating association with the club.
- Jack Harrison joined New England Revolution in MLS.
- Karl Darlow joined Manchester United on a free transfer.
- Isaac Schmidt joined Young Boys.
- Maximilian Wöber and Sam Byram were released.
Two further squad members have gone out temporarily. Joël Piroe is out on loan, as is Sebastiaan Bornauw. Separately, Facundo Buonanotte‘s loan spell ended and he is no longer at the club.
What the window has done to the squad
Add it up and Leeds have replaced their entire goalkeeping department, refreshed the centre of defence and thinned out an attacking group that had become bloated during the Championship years. Ethan Ampadu remains captain. The spine that won at Nottingham Forest on the opening day — Trafford in goal, Joe Rodon and the new centre-halves in front of him, Anton Stach and Ilia Gruev in midfield — is largely a summer creation.
The one area supporters keep circling is the No 9 position. With Piroe out on loan and Gelhardt sold, Farke is left with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha as his only recognised centre-forwards, with Noah Okafor, Wilfried Gnonto, Daniel James and Wilson providing the width and the movement around them. Is any more business likely before the deadline?
Possibly. The Yorkshire Evening Post has reported that Leeds are closing in on another arrival with a departure also expected, with a goalkeeper understood to be the priority as Farke looks to settle the No 2 spot behind Trafford — a story we have followed through the Lucas Perri and Michael Zetterer developments. Nothing there is done until it is announced, and readers should treat every name attached to the club this week as a report rather than a signing.
