The Leeds United squad numbers for 2026-27 are out, and they read like a summary of the club’s entire summer. For a fortnight the same three questions had been doing the rounds among the Elland Road faithful: who takes the No.1 jersey, who inherits the No.5 shirt Pascal Struijk left behind, and what becomes of the vacant No.10? On Friday morning, barely 24 hours before the Whites open their second successive Premier League campaign at the City Ground, the club answered all three at once.
The full list, confirmed by the club and set out in detail by the Yorkshire Evening Post, hands the No.1 to James Trafford, shifts Lucas Perri to 23, gives Tarik Muharemović the free five and makes Harry Wilson the new No.10. Nico Elvedi, whose signing was completed on Wednesday, wears 30. Seven academy names are on the list too.
Trafford takes the No.1 as Perri drops to 23
The headline change is the one most supporters had already pencilled in. Trafford, the club’s record signing at a reported £40m, takes the goalkeeping jersey he was widely expected to claim from the moment his move was confirmed on 6 August. Perri, who carried the No.1 last season, moves to 23 – the shirt worn in 2025-26 by Sebastiaan Bornauw, now on loan at Hamburg SV. The YEP reports that the Brazilian is expected to leave the club before the window shuts, and a switch of that kind rarely happens by accident.
Alex Cairns, re-signed over the summer, keeps 21, with academy goalkeepers Rory Mahady (48) and Darryl Ombang (49) also given numbers.
Muharemović in Struijk’s five, Wilson in Piroe’s ten
Muharemović, a £34.1m arrival from Sassuolo by the YEP’s valuation, takes the No.5 vacated by Struijk’s move to Brighton – a symbolic handover as much as an administrative one, given how much of last season’s back line the Belgian anchored. Wilson, in since 8 July, gets the No.10 freed up by Joel Piroe’s season-long loan to West Ham, a shirt that carries its own weight in this part of Yorkshire.
Elvedi, meanwhile, slots in at 30 after a deal that had been building for the best part of a week. The Switzerland international was registered in time to be available at Forest, and 30 is the sort of number a late-window centre-back inherits when the tidy ones have gone.
One detail worth flagging: there is no number listed for Sam Byram, Mateo Joseph or Largie Ramazani, three players whose situations remain unresolved. Read into that what you will, but the club has not commented on any of them.
