Leeds United rejected Sunderland’s attempt to sign Noah Okafor on deadline day, with the Swiss forward remaining firmly part of Daniel Farke’s plans at Elland Road.
According to Sky Sports’ Zinny Boswell, Sunderland made an enquiry about Okafor’s availability as they searched for attacking reinforcements. However, the approach went no further, with sources at Leeds indicating there was no desire to allow the 25-year-old to leave.
The Black Cats were scrambling to strengthen their attack during a frantic deadline day and eventually completed the signing of Malick Fofana instead. Their failed attempt to land Noah Okafor means Leeds United will have Okafor stay at the Elland Road who had a decent first campaign in Yorkshire.
Noah Okafor joined Leeds from AC Milan last summer in a deal worth £18million. He went on to score eight goals across 28 Premier League appearances for the club.
Farke sees Noah Okafor as key attacking option
The forward’s importance was made clear when Daniel Farke discussed his arrival last summer, with the Leeds boss highlighting exactly what he could bring to the team.
“We’ve spoken about wanting to bring in some quality signings for our attack, and Noah fits this perfectly,” Daniel Farke said.
Okafor was also selected by Switzerland for this summer’s World Cup, although his playing time during the tournament was severely restricted.
With Sunderland’s interest ultimately rejected, Leeds have kept hold of Okafor beyond the transfer deadline. Farke will now hope the Swiss international can continue to provide a solid attacking option as Leeds look to build on their strong start to the campaign.
