Leeds United have reportedly reached an agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt over a deal for goalkeeper Michael Zetterer, although the transfer is not yet complete.
The Whites have already strengthened between the posts this summer with the club-record arrival of James Trafford. The England international made an impressive debut in Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest, keeping a clean sheet in the process and named fans’ player of the match.
However, Leeds’ goalkeeping situation could still see further changes. Lucas Perri is expected to leave Elland Road, joining Karl Darlow and Illan Meslier among those departing the club.
Leeds face final hurdle in Zetterer deal
Leeds United had previously been linked with Zetterer after the goalkeeper made 28 appearances for Frankfurt last season. BILD now reports as quoted by MOTLeeds News that Frankfurt are looking to move the 30-year-old on and have agreed a deal with Leeds for his transfer.
There is still a significant hurdle to overcome, though. Zetterer himself has yet to agree personal terms with Leeds, meaning the club must convince the former Werder Bremen goalkeeper to make the move.
That could prove important given previous reluctance. Zetterer’s agent had categorically denied that his client was set to join Leeds, insisting that the goalkeeper and his family were happy in Frankfurt.
Current speculation suggests the move could initially be structured as a loan, with Leeds having an option to make the transfer permanent next year.
As the agreement between the two clubs is making some progress, Leeds still need Zetterer on board before the deal can be completed.
