Leeds United Chelsea Carabao Cup Date Confirmed With 8pm Sky Sports Kick-Off

The Leeds United Chelsea Carabao Cup third-round tie finally has a date, a kick-off time and a broadcaster. Daniel Farke’s Whites will travel to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday 9 September for an 8pm kick-off, with the game selected for live coverage on Sky Sports, the Yorkshire Evening Post reports.

Leeds United Chelsea Carabao Cup: how the tie came about

Leeds booked their place in round three with a 2-0 win at Nottingham Forest on Tuesday 25 August, three nights after Anton Stach’s free-kick had won the Premier League opener at the same ground. The draw then handed them yet another away trip — to whichever of Chelsea or Luton Town came through — and Chelsea duly beat the Hatters 2-0 at Stamford Bridge to set up the meeting.

Round three is being split across two midweeks, the weeks beginning Monday 7 September and Monday 14 September. Leeds were always likely to be handed the earlier slot because they host Newcastle United at Elland Road on Monday 14 September.

Two long away days inside five

The confirmed schedule leaves Farke with a demanding stretch. Leeds are at Brighton in a 3pm kick-off on Saturday 5 September, back on the road to west London the following Wednesday, then handed four days before Newcastle’s visit on the Monday night.

All of which is for later. First comes the small matter of Elland Road’s first competitive fixture since May, with Brentford the visitors on Sunday — a stiffer welcome home than the fixture list suggested, and one Farke previewed alongside a double team-news boost. Confirmed kick-off details for every tie are published on the official Leeds United website.
